What is Refractive Surgery?
Refractive Surgery is the surgical correction of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), presbyopia (reading glasses) and/or astigmatism (imperfect surface). The most commonly performed type of refractive surgery in the world is called LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) where a refractive surgeon, a Medical Doctor (MD) and Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), use an excimer laser to reshape the curvature of the cornea to eliminate to refractive error causing the nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and/or astigmatism.
Refractive Surgery is an excellent option for people who want to reduce to eliminate their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
